![]() What's particularly irritating is that the remnants of the Empire being a crazy, isolated junta is actually a fascinating and new concept to explore - that's canonically what the First Order is at the beginning of TFA, but the film wants to keep it ambiguous. I'm not stupid, and I left my cinema-viewing of TFA totally confused as to what the relationship between the Republic, the Resistance, and the First Order actually was. Every other plot beat in TFA & TLJ could've played out without the wonky Republic-Resistance link. A hologram of the galaxy with a tiny section of red representing First Order territory would do the job Poe mentioning that Leia needs to know that the First Order are far better armed than they thought would accomplish something similar. The simplest fucking thing to do would have just been to have the Republic vs the First Order, with a 30 second scene about what the Republic understands the First Order to be. They wanted the underdog/empire dynamic from moment one (like the OT) and they were terrified of providing exposition lest people accuse them of being like the prequels, so you end up with a first film that's bizarrely coy about what's actually going on. The Rebel Alliance from Star Wars goes head-to-head with the UNSC from Halo on todays Galactic Versus Halo vs Star Wars. I've complex feelings about the sequels - I like TFA, love TLJ, and would really rather be able to forget TROS - but I think the deliberate vagueness of the Resistance/First Order dynamic is the trilogy's original sin that fundamentally made things difficult afterwards. ||| Join our Discord! ||| Question? Those who remained would have been the most loyal, the most fanatical, and the most effectively brainwashed - the cream of the crop, as far as the Emperor was concerned. The ranks of the Rebellion swelled after Alderaan, and it wouldn't be a surprise to learn a lot more Stormtroopers joined up as well. The fate of the galaxy rests on your decision. The 2 ring collection box lets you choose your combination of rings. ![]() The destruction of Alderaan changed everything in the Star Wars galaxy until that moment, most Imperials told themselves they were simply fighting for the forces of order, believing the Rebel Alliance to be nothing but terrorists. The interesting question, though, is whether there were more Stormtrooper defections than had previously been realized.
